Affiliate Links on Iconic Alternatives

So now that the legalese is out of the way … what exactly are affiliate links?
Basically, affiliate links allow the site owner to earn a commission when a visitor to his/her site clicks on a link to a product and buys something from that 3rd party merchant. For example, if you (the visitor) read an article on alternatives for the Tom Ford Harrington jacket, then click on the link to a Marks and Spencer’s option (the product) and buy it, then Marks &Spencer (the merchant) tracks your click on the affiliate link to determine the source site and pays Iconic Alternatives (the site owner) a commission of 5% of the purchase price. This is important: The price of the product is NOT affected for you, the buyer! You, the visitor, are not giving Iconic Alternatives a penny; all commissions come from the 3rd party vendor.
Long story short, you should assume that any link to a product or merchant you click on in a post or comment is an affiliate link which can generate income for Iconic Alternatives.
Does the Use of Affiliate Links Affect the Content on Iconic Alternatives?
Absolutely not! Iconic Alternatives was started to help people find the best affordable options for classic, style icon inspired clothing and accessories. And that continues to be my mission. If the best option is from a merchant that is not part of an affiliate program to which I belong, I will still place that option front and center in a post. Finding quality alternatives for you, the visitor, will always take priority over earning a few cents for a click.
This makes sense for three reasons. First, it’s just really fun to share cool alternatives with you, my fellow fans. I started Iconic Alternatives because I enjoyed the thrill of “the hunt and the catch” and it feels good to show you what I’ve found and get your feedback.
Second, focusing on quality content makes sense financially. If I decided to exclude the “best choice” from a post because it doesn’t earn me money and focused only on recommending products that pay commissions, then the quality of my content would decline. And if my quality declines, then I lose your trust and fewer people will visit my site. And if fewer people visit my site, then fewer people will click on the affiliate links that earn me revenue. I want more visitors, and “quality content is king” when it comes to growing a community.
Third, Iconic Alternatives works with a variety of affiliate program services (such as SOVRN, Kutoku, AWIN, Share-A-Shale, Impact, Amazon and others) which gives me access to over 30,000 different merchants big and small. So the sources of 99% of the “best options” I share with you are probably already part of an affiliate program to which I belong. With that many retailers, I can use the majority of my time searching for the cool stuff, and next to no time worrying about the merchant that sells it.
That’s the disclosure! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via the site contact form or directly at [email protected].
